Antony speaking with a group of 6th formers

Antony works in student support at the University of Leeds, supporting students in distress and organising activities to help make talking about mental health normal. Whilst preparing for his ride across America Antony has continued to share his mental health experiences with a wide range of groups, focusing on the importance of being open about how we are feeling and what activities we can do to look after our own wellbeing. Antony is available to speak to schools, community groups, and workplaces. Antony has specific presentations prepared for primary school children (age 5-11) and secondary school children (11-16), alongside college students (16-18) and University students, incorporating his experience working in student support at University.

Antony has also used his experience to support a local school to develop a programme of activities to support student mental health and wellbeing.

Testimonials:

“Antony came in to talk to our Yr12 students about the importance of looking after our mental health. We were so pleased to welcome Antony in to talk to the students because he has supported our school with how we are working on addressing mental health and encouraging all students to be aware of and look after their mental health. His presentation combined the right mixture of factual information from a global and personal perspective with opportunities for the students to reflect on their own situation. Thank you Antony, we wish you every success on your bike ride across America raising awareness about mental health issues.”

Lara Ramrattan, Head of Drama, Ilkley Grammar School

Antony’s assembly engaged our pupils well.  Antony had a simple effective way of explaining every day well being techniques that our children could easily relate to.  His journey plans excited our pupils.  We are looking forward to tracking his progress with e postcards and revisiting the underlying purpose of his expedition.

Mrs Warren, Headteacher, Ashfield Primary School

“Antony is someone really worth listening to; his speech is entertaining and personal. Everyone in the audience learnt something new. We’re really grateful for him taking the time to come to talk to us.”

Charlotte Hobbs, Head of Year, secondary school in Lincolnshire

Antony presented his “Mental Health and Me” session at the University of Leeds IT Services International Men’s Day event on 19th November 2020 and absolutely blew everyone away. His authentic and open style is refreshing and engaging – had we been in a physical room, I’m sure you’d have been able to hear to a pin drop and its amazing how he still manages to connect with people via the technology platform, which I’ve seen limit other speakers previously. What he has to say is hugely impactful and will help others who are listening to realise, in his words, that its okay not to be okay. Thank you Antony, for your candour, courage and generosity in sharing your experience. What you do genuinely helps vulnerable people and I would unreservedly invite you to speak at any event in the future as your impact on the audience was profound.
