Hair today, Gone tomorrow*

Over the last few months I’ve been on a bit of a mental health journey, and am now on the road back to recovery. I’m lucky to be supported by an incredible wife and loads of lovely people – and also the lovely NHS (thank goodness for free healthcare – I’m looking at you America).

Then I started talking, and sharing other people’s stories. And I’ve seen that so many people have struggled with their mental health, and that we’re all in the same boat. Sharing stories is good, and I’m looking for more ways to tackle stigma and provide support for people who need it.

But in the meantime, there are lots of incredible mental health charities who need your support so they can provide much needed support services.

When I was most depressed, I stopped keeping my beard in check. It is now somewhat impressive. And with Movember coming up… well, it would be rude not to. But I’m not one to do things by half. So, here’s the deal. I’m willing to give up that which I hold most dear (my beautiful ginger body hair) live on Facebook but I’m going to need your cash. So, if we raise:

  • £100 – shave off the beard
  • £500 – shave my hair
  • £1000 – wax my chest

A couple of things to bear in mind

  • I hate pain
  • My facial hair is my pride and joy
  • This would be the first time I haven’t had a hair on my head since I was born
  • If you donate £10+ you’ll get the opportunity to receive a lock of my hair! (Gosh only knows why you would, but…)
  • My wife really, really hates my chest hair
  • There’s quite a lot of chest hair
  • I might have to go to job interviews as bald as an egg
  • I have a tiny bald patch on the back of my head and I’m terrified that my hair will grow back even thinner
  • I hate pain
